Selective demolishment

The former Wienerberger site is about 6 hectares in size, with some 42,000 m² of pavement. The enclosed building volume exceeds 250,000 m³. In September 2023, Devagro started the demolition of the existing buildings and pavement on the site. In a first phase, some 24,000 m² of corrugated asbestos sheets were removed. The demolition was done according to the Tracimat procedure, which focuses on the traceability of waste materials. Together with the demolition expert, this was monitored and checked very carefully. After removal of the hazardous materials, destructive demolition could be started.

Circularity key

Circularity plays an important role in this project. Both the foundations and the concrete pavements will be crushed and then reused in the redevelopment of the new SME zone. Indeed, the old Wienerberger site is making way for new entrepreneurs who want to expand or need to relocate. During demolition, the brick rubble, originating from the outer walls of the sheds, was also selectively demolished with extreme precision and stored on site.

Second life for bricks

The brick rubble was then crushed on site to a maximum grain size of 5 mm. This was possible through our recent investment in a mobile and hybrid powered crushing plant for fine grinding such respected waste materials. The recycled brick granulate will be reused as raw material for new fast building bricks. Thus, part of the raw material mix will be replaced by a secondary high-quality brick granulate. This is what makes the project so unique.
